As is fairly common with older-style homes, Sarah and Jamie’s house in Winchmore Hill had some quirky, character-filled spaces. Quaint though this may be, it was not particularly practical, so their smallest bedroom, with its odd shape and narrow length had simply become a large cupboard, used only for storage. What a waste!
Sarah and Jamie wanted to reclaim their unloved and unused bedroom, so they called us in to give them a little redesign and refurbishment assistance.
We were asked to turn the narrow bedroom into a decent-sized family bathroom and then elsewhere in their home to remove a small bathroom and en-suite that backed onto one another to create a good-sized square bedroom from that space to serve as a nursery.
As with all similar projects, the challenge came from the technical aspect of a total redesign of the plumbing system to allow for the relocation of the bathroom. Design was also critical to make the bathroom and bedroom feel spacious, stylish, and connected with the feel and flow of the existing home.
All bathroom and en-suite furniture was removed, flooring taken up and walls stripped back. The en-suite and bathroom were knocked through, the rooms were rewired, new walls constructed, and the floor was reinforced to take the additional weight of the new bath.
Marble tiles from Fired Earth, a reclaimed Victorian fireplace, underfloor heating, coving and skirting, freestanding statement bath and shower and bathroom furniture from Aston Matthews, downlights and dimmers, plastering and carpentry, all finished to the highest of standards.
The end result in the bathroom was of a beautiful blend of new and old, just as Sarah and Jamie had asked for.
Lighting in your shower room or bathroom should be more than just functional. In Sarah and Jamie’s stunning new bathroom we used feature lighting around their statement bath and in the niches around the room to add a little mood flexibility on a separate switch.
“Jago and his team were excellent. Very good at offering advice as to what would work and where to position things. Aftercare has been fantastic.” Sarah and Jamie, Winchmore Hill.
