Bernard and Beryl are the parents of a former client of ours, Peter, whose bathroom we’d converted into a lovely shower room the year before. They had a lovely apartment in Southgate, North London, but their bathroom was stuck in the 1970s, and the ‘lovely’ light brown/butterscotch colour bathroom suite and tiles were definitely due an update.
Styling was certainly one reason why Peter recommended us to his parents, but more important than that was accessibility. Bernard and Beryl were simply having far too much trouble getting in and out of their bath, so much so that it had become practically redundant. Something had to be done about that.
After meeting with Bernard and Beryl we proposed that to save both time and money we should keep the layout of the existing bathroom largely the same, while making the whole room far more user friendly for the couple. So, the bath had to go to be replaced with a decent shower, along with a whole host of other convenience and accessibility features.
So, first for the skip was the lovely butterscotch bathroom suite and tiles, wrap-around shower curtain rail and curtain, all gone. And in their place, we installed stunning sleek and easy to use Hans Grohe power shower with non-slip shower tray from JT Fusion, discreet shower screen, stylish handrails from Keuco, and moveable in-shower seating. The various higgledy-piggledy features of the room were smoothed away to create a contemporary comfortable space for the couple. The entire room was updated with new floor tiles and wall tiling, new lighting, modern basin and WC.
Bernard and Beryl told us later that they loved it so much that they wished they’d done it years ago.
Remember, if you are looking to remove a standard 70cm bath, don’t assume that it has to be replaced with a shower of the same dimensions. If you have the space, use it. An 80 or 90cm tray will give you a far more comfortable and enjoyable showering experience. It makes sense to maximise your shower room space
“We were recommended The Shower Room and from the start Jago and his team were a pleasure to work with. He listened to what we want to achieve and came up with innovative ideas on how to best utilise the available space. We were happy to accept his advice and now the job is finished are delighted that we did. The standard of work is excellent and the result exactly what we had hoped for. We have no hesitation in recommending Jago and his team and have already done so.” Peter, son of Bernard & Beryl, Southgate
